17 Because the North won the Civil War.

To the victor goes the spoils.

18 I have an opinion on that but I do not think it could ever be accomplished without much bloodshed. Therefore, I hope it never happens. If it did I would remain in Florida. Let us examine the ramifications of such an event. For one thing, all my relations live in the North... They would instantly become 仇讎

About half the state is designated a national forest or biosphere or nature preserve.

Re: Questions about American Culture

During the Civil War, Florida supplied the entire Confederacy with food. It was never invaded because the terrain here is inhospitable to city people which must have comprised the bulk of the Union forces. There is much prairie land, farmland and dense forests. Swamps are only one type of ecosystem that exists here.

I do not place a whole lot of credibility in that ecosystem stuff. Sounds like a whole lot of jargon to me and jargon always did make me itch. To me, prairie is wide open land, fit for grazing. Forest, is a place with lots of trees that seem to be growing right next to each other. Swamp? Well that is when too much rain falls on an area and it ain't had time to drain.

I am unable to PM you because you are not a real member.

Re: Questions about American Culture

I am sorry but that privilege is handed out by MIF. Postcount has nothing to do with it. There have been members with thousands and thousands of posts that did not have that title. Currently, there are only two active "Real Members."

Re: Questions about American Culture

There are limitations to how many people can be Real Members. I have often felt very bad over the fact that there is no way to reward people I feel have been outstanding members. But I guess the act of giving without getting anything in return is the best reward.

Re: Questions about American Culture

Some states in the North are closer to the South politically than geographically, so I guess some would have to define it..
