Re: Number Theory

Who are the mathematicians?

Re: Number Theory

You have shown that there exists at least one solution for which a+b=88. This does not however prove that there are no solutions which have a+b != 88

Re: Number Theory

To extract a contradiction argument you would have to assume that x + y ≠  88 and show this leads to a contradiction.  Since many other values (other than 88) are possible, I think you'd have a tough time with this.

Re: Number Theory

I do not need a 'by contradiction' proof. Yours is pretty elegant

Hi;

This is the first reply:

Excellent work. Indeed, for positive integers  , you've nailed it.

Now I am getting some negatives!

Re: Number Theory

Hi;

You and Bob are correct.

First off, I did not see the word prove when I did that or forgot about it.

http://math.kabooblydoo.com

They said I needed to prove some property of integers that I did not do. They gave the same proof that zetafunc did.

Sorry, for the confusion.

I think about 80% are working in some capacity or other for the MIC.

Re: Number Theory

An electronics company?

A better question is why mathematicians are paid?

Re: Number Theory

Of course. Topology is an important branch of mathematics which influences many other areas. There are new areas popping up, like topology being used to sensor networks and robotics, topological insulators, a structure with some notion of continuity etc.

Mostly the people that are employed here in these installations that I saw were applied not pure.
