Re: Ixquick

I believe that TOR is safe only if you're very very careful.

Often, there can be client side apps that run on your PC to get the original IP and send it back to the network. That was done by some agency recently as a proof of concept to illustrate that it is possible to get the IP.

While you're on TOR you should block plugins like Flash and especially Java. You should not run Word Documents, PDF files, executables downloaded from the internet on TOR

Can you really be anonymous online?

Re: Ixquick

They do not need to inject a rootkit in. Micro$oft already supplies the backdoors and they are built in.

I know, I meant for Windows. But if they do it, what makes you think others do not?

Re: Ixquick

Because they're open source. If you doubt it, you can compile your OS yourself

Re: Ixquick

Have you heard of the fiasco of Orbit Downloader? I mean has anyone really gone through every line of linux code?

Re: Ixquick

No, what about the orbit downloader?

Maybe not, but the point is that you're allowed to

Re: Ixquick

Orbit has been the leading downloader for a number of years now. People rave about it. The truth it uses its host machines to crash sites. It also plants trojans on the host machine. A well known plugin for FF spies on your machine. it too is open source and free.

Re: Ixquick

It is giving the users a chance to check the source and compile it themselves. If the users do not do that, they're losing an oppurtunity. What can I do about it?

What plugin?

Re: Ixquick

Compiling it yourself is not the answer. You have to check each line of code in whatever language it is written in. Too big a task for most people. Noscript is open source but tried to pull a fast one. So did Sony. For everyone that is caught, 10 get away.

Re: Ixquick

You should still agree that the risk of the malicious code being there is still reduced in open source projects

Re: Ixquick

there is one more software ,i.e, HIDE IP EASY to hide your IP address.
But then the ultimate truth is that it is nearly impossible to really make our connections 100% secure.

Re: Ixquick

The problem is that the proxy knows your IP, so how secure is it really?

Re: Ixquick

A proxy or proxy server is basically another computer which serves as a hub through which internet requests are processed

Acts as an intermediate between you and the sites you wish to go to. It provides another IP address. As a security measure it is very overrated.

Re: Ixquick

Niharika,

The software named "Hide IP Easy" or something actually uses such a proxy.

Yesterday I got a look at all the information FF is collecting about me, even though I have all the surveillance turned off. They say they are not giving it to anyone...
