Re: Simplify the following:

Did you understand what was done in post #449?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Re: Simplify the following:

That will not do anything to help. You can not cancel the 3x in the denominator.

Re: Simplify the following:

No don't. What I have said so far is what the book used to solve similar ones. Please,  then help me

Re: Simplify the following:

Ok,

x^2 + 2 = 3x
x^2 - 3x + 2 = taking log
Log(x^2/3x) + log2 = o

This is how I would solve it.

Re: Simplify the following:

Hi;

If we are starting with a quadratic

do we really need logs to solve it?

Re: Simplify the following:

In fact I factorised it and had 1 or 2 as answers. But since you suggested that log should be used so I agreed. Actually,  wanted to learn more of log that is why I did not tell you that I have factorised

Forget about the use of a log on this one. The factoring you have done is fine.

Please if you wouldn't mind use log to solve it completely, and let me see how you would have solve it by using log, please!

I do not if it can be solved by a log but give me some time.

Re: Simplify the following:

If we now take the log of both sides we can do the right side but not the left. I would say it can not be done using logs.

How about if the 3x had been x^2? Could one use log?

Re: Simplify the following:

You would then have x^2 -x^2 +2 = 0 which is not even an equation.
