Re: A troubling sum

Hi;

The summation calculus is a thought for a cllosed form.

But it is more interesting to get a numerical answer to it.

Re: A troubling sum

No. I need an exact answer.

Re: A troubling sum

Then you use the summation calculus. It is probably also in a table of sums.

Re: A troubling sum

Hi bobbym

Ok, I will try. But what do you exactly mean by summation calculus?

Re: A troubling sum

You have heard of the integral calculus. It is for continuous functions. There is the summation calculus for the discrete.

Re: A troubling sum

Hi;

It is just textbook work, the kind they love on the AOPS. It is boring work that must resort to a table lookup sooner or later. In other words a cricket could do it if he did not die from boredom.

The numerical way is highly interesting, full of deep math and more useful.

Hi;

I don't know what to do.

Did not see that before. Do you require help on the summation calculus?

Re: A troubling sum

Looking at the answer I can tell you this is no more valuable than a table lookup.

I will do it if I can but it will take time please wait for the answer.

Nope. It came up while doing another sum.

Re: A troubling sum

Shouldn't you try to work the problem to get something other than the very difficult sum you have now?

But I have split it up very nicely like this.

Re: A troubling sum

That is not a nice split. Sums are like integrals most do not have a closed form. Because mathematica does that one does not mean a human can.
