Re: Bafflers?

How did you gain concept of those numbers then? And why didn't you pursue your chemical career after that?

Re: Bafflers?

Because I only knew of 0,1 and 2 I could not do the calculations that I was being asked to do in chemistry. Math classes had not prepared me to do numerics! I could not succeed in chemistry anymore and dropped out of it.

Yes,but how did you learn about those other numbers?

I began to hate math. Then I came to the promised land...

Re: Bafflers?

No, I immediately got into gaming at every level. Then I needed to compute probabilities and the number of ways.

Nope! I told you I went into computers so that I would not have to learn about the real math and those numbers.

Re: Bafflers?

You should see the flaw in my reasoning back then. What I did not realize was that computers were forcing me to learn more math not less. To program well one must be a good mathematician. This is not widely believed or understood and I like it that way...

Re: Bafflers?

That could be so,but it is not a general opinion that good programmers must be good mathematicians.

Re: Bafflers?

Who cares about their opinions. When I was programming I was the best. I do not have to rely on what wannabees and second best have to say. They are wrong, it is as simple as that.

This is not widely believed or understood and I like it that way...

Of course when I was doing that for a living I was very happy that everyone else felt as you said. After all, I was eating off of them...

Hehe...

Hmmmmm...so you did programming for living...what kind of software did you make?

Why do you say such hurtful things?

What did you program?

Re: Bafflers?

As I said I was working in Gaming. I needed to solve probability and combinatoric problems. That is what I was writing , simulations of gambling games and situations.

They quickly grew bigger than my hardware and that is where the math comes in!

Re: Bafflers?

Do you think your work on that could help you in casinos?

Although I do not prefer computer math over hand math,I think simulations are a cool way to get results.I think I might in a recent future open a thred about empirical ways to get probability answers.

Re: Bafflers?

Of course it did. I was able to answer up to a point many gaming questions. Some resisted, so mathematics was required. It was then that I learned about those type of numbers and the problems that generate them.

Gaming was more lucrative and more competitiive and I was the best.

Re: Bafflers?

You sure aren't modest.

Wasn't chemistry your life's dream?

Btw,can you recommend a good book about series which is not "generatingfunctionology" or "A=B"?

Re: Bafflers?

Modest? I prefer truthful. Everyone has some special gift. When you find it you will be happy and good at what you do. Most people do jobs they hate and have no special talent for.

Re: Bafflers?

Well,well,12 if I get a job related to math. I would love it. I am not sure though how good I am at math.

Did you see my question in 'Bafflers' about series books?

Re: Bafflers?

Till this day I have never seen one.

I love math too, but it does not love me. Gaming was my calling, there is a difference.

You have never seen a good book about series of any kind? Did you read the question in post #371?

Btw,how would you judge my math knowledge?
