Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Yes,I know that unconventional methods are used, but I really don't know which one of these methods I should use.

None of the methods you did use. If you would have tried Wolfram first you never would have tried any substitution or IBP or anything that works on a textbook problem.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

What about DUIS or contour integration?Or switching to polar?Or anything? Should we even find the definite integral or is there a way to evaluate it directly?

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Maybe some of that kaboobly doo might work. But we will try them last, not first. You should look at series methods, generating functions first, in short the techniques of the modern experimental mathematics.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

What does that have to do with integrals.

Okay, let's get busy. What method do you suggest we do first?

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

What does that have to do with integrals.

You are not remembering Richard and his amusing story.

None, we should continue with the series we were discussing. The methods of series manipulation will come in handy for all integrals and sums.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Okay. But I want to be able to do the integral afterwards!

Forget the integral for awhile, come out of that box as Richard did.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Riemann Rearrangement Algorithm. You are surely familiar somewhat with the Riemanns hypothesis?

Well a funny thing was discovered when someone was finally allowed to look through his original notebooks on the hypothesis. The examiner expected to find great pieces of insight. Great topology and sublime proofs. Instead they found nothing but numerics! Riemann was an experimental mathematician. This is little known because it is too embarassing to modern mathematicians.

Anyway, they found the RRA in the work.

Remember the original series needed 20 000 000 terms to achieve 6 digit accuracy. One application of the RRA produces

Notice we have 7 correct digits with only 2000 terms. A speedup of 10000 times!

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

This gets 7 digits of accuracy from only 200 terms.
