Re: Probability

hi guys

i know that this sounds a little akward, but since the coin is a 3d object, and its width is not infinitely small, doesn't that mean that there is a possibility that it lands on the side?

Re: Probability

this question is confusing Did you notice that your experimental data from question 2 was closer to the theoretical probability than your data from question 1? Explain briefly using your data to support your answer

because the experimental data  was  equal

There you go! I like it. Use that data for question 2 and this question 4.

Re: Probability

dose the experimental probability get closer to the theoretical probability when the trail number is larger ?like the the theatrical is ganna equal 12/25 *5 = 12  13/25*5=13  3/5 *5=3 2/5*5= 2

Re: Probability

Hi zee-f;

Loosely, yes! It will not get 12 and 13. It will approach 1 / 2. If we flip a coin a million times it will be very close to 500 000 heads.

Re: Probability

so my answer is ganna be like this

Did you notice that your experimental data from question 2 was closer to the theoretical probability than your data from question 1? Explain briefly using your data to support your answer

Yes because 12/25=48% and 13/25=52% is closer to 50-50 than 2/5=40% and 3/5=60%

so the experimental probability gets closer to the theoretical probability when the trail number is larger .

Re: Probability

Very good! That is correct. If you really understand what you have said. And you came up with that on your own then you are ahead of many people.

Re: Probability

5. Predict the experimental probabilities of flipping heads or tails if you flipped the coin a total of 100 times. Use information from the lesson as well as your experimental data to support your answer.

5. i would say from what i got from number 2 i would multiply it by 4 just to predict
i would get p(h)=48/100 and p(t)52/100

Yes, that is a good prediction, based on your experimental evidence.

Re: Probability

6. What is the theoretical probability of rolling a "4" on a regular six-sided die?

6- p(4)=1/6

thank you

7. Describe the appearance of a histogram that shows the theoretical probabilities of rolling the numbers 1-6 on a regular six-sided die.

am kinda stuck  on this one

Re: Probability

Okay, then throw it 60 times and carefully record the number of 1's, 2's all the way to 6.
Let me see your results and then we will throw the die using a program that MIF provides for us.

these are my results
so far

2 , 2,5,4,4,1,2,5,3,3,3, 5,6,5,6,2,4,4,3,2,2,2,1,6,1, 5,4,5,3,1,5,5,4,4,2,1,1,5,3,2,3,3,5,4,6,4,3,2,3,2,6,6,1,1,2,5,3,5,4,4,

Re: Probability

so
p(1)=8/60
p(2)=12/60
p(3)=11/60
p(4)=11/60
p(5)=12/60
p(6)=6/60

Re: Probability

Now go over to that page and across the top put 1,2,3,4,5,6 in each box. Undferneath it put the numerator for each. For 1 you would put 8 in the box below the 1. Then press graph , that is the histogram of your experiment.

Re: Probability

That is correct! You would expect that. Each side has the same
probability so you expect them to get close to the same number
when you throw the die.
