Re: Algebra word problems

It was an x rated movie, my instructor showed the class this morning, or half of one to be continued. I would not be surprised if someone didn't report her. It was certainly out of place for class with kids, some right out of high school.

Here's one about carpet: They are mixed up, it seems.
Suppose carpet for a 6 ft. by 14 ft. room costs $500. Find the cost to carpet a room 24 ft. by 56 ft.
The cost to carpet the room is $_____.

Yikes, x-rated! She could be suffering from some sort of stress. Does she Mhaaawuaaahhh a lot like a mad scientist?

No, she is an older woman. She is not the typical teacher in college for sure. I do not understand her at all, as far as professors go. She has a doctorate.

I will not tell on her. But tell her if she comes in here she will have to mind her p's and q's.

Re: Algebra word problems

Thank you.
Here is a complicated one. I hope i type it correctly.
If m is an odd positive integer greater than 1, then ( m^2 -1  m^2 + 1) is a Pythagorean triple.
                                                                          (m ____._____________
                                                                                  2               2
Use this to find the Pythagorean triple generated when m = 15.

The Pythagorean triple is (___,___,___)
(Simplify your answer. Use ascending order.)

Re: Algebra word problems

There's an m, before the rest and it's laid out like division. The m^2 is at the top after the first m, but they are not together. I hope that makes sense. I have never seen one like this.

Re: Algebra word problems

Hi;

It does not. The formula for the pythagorean triples from Euclids time is:

I need an m and a n. In other words I need two numbers.

You mean this expression:

This gives 15, 112, 113 as the pythagorean triple.

Re: Algebra word problems

It says If m is an odd positive integer greater than 1 (that could be one of the numbers you need) then later it says "Use this (the problem) to find the Pythagorean triple generated when m= 15. (15 could be the other one you need?)
It's beautiful, the way you typed it out. Like art. The first m had a comma after it, before the problem began, yet it was part of it.

Yes, I think you did mention that.
I guess i will sleep now; it is late.
ps For real I dreamed about math the other night. In the dream, money was not money, people paid with math symbols. I know that is crazy!!!!See ya tomorrow which is now today.

To be able to know math would be a gift i think. I have always had trouble with math, especially algebra. It has a beautiful language of its own though.
