Re: Standard normal curve

That is correct! How much do you want to subtract?

Re: Standard normal curve

Yes, we are done with that. Look at the equation that is left.

Supposing we subtract 70 from both sides. We would get:

What is 70 - 70?

What is 0 - 70?

Re: Standard normal curve

Hi survival;

One question at a time. You know that 70 - 70 = 0. But we need one more thing 0 - 70?

Re: Standard normal curve

Nope, 0 from any number is the number itself. For instance If I have 100 dollars and I take 0 dollars away, how much money do I have left? 100 dollars of course.

But that is not the question. It is 0 minus 70 or 0 - 70. Think of it this way, if I have no money ( 0 dollars ) and a bill comes in for 70 dollars. How much money do I have now?

Re: Standard normal curve

Nope. I would now owe 70 dollars. That is how we say it in the real world, in math we say I have  - 70 dollars. That means I owe 70. That is not the same as 0 dollars. That means I have no dough but I at least do not owe anybody. 70 dollars means I have that in my pocket.

So you see 70, 0 and -70 are three very different things.

Re: Standard normal curve

i have often heard other students who cannot do much with English or write a paper and are geniuses in math. One of my past teachers said he took algebra three times before he passed it.
This has been traumatic for me when this is the first time i will not be on the honors list or the Deans list for sure because of 3 math classes at one time, and the research class might get an a. I can write anything.
People are different and you are a genius in math.

Honors mean nothing. You are not competing with me or anyone else. It does not matter how many times your teacher flubbed. There are people here that know more math than I do. That is kaboobly doo. The only thing that counts is you, how much you know.

I am not a genius, I just am not a product of the new math! That is my secret!

You have been taught to not see the connection between math and the rest of the world. It is not your fault. I will untrain you.

You must forget what you have learned- Yoda

Lets look at it again.

0 - 70. means I had no money and now a bill comes in. My net worth is -70 dollars. I owe 70 bucks.

Re: Standard normal curve

This is all true, but my homework is still due in a couple of days.
Yes, I have always feared math and that is why I put it all at the last. I should have spaced it out and thrown away the fear. Fear controls everything.
I forgot to ask what the answer to the problem is. It is not -70, according to the computer world of math classes.

Re: Standard normal curve

Hi;

Fear controls everything.

Anger, fear, aggression, quick to join when they fight. Once you start down the path of the dark side, consume you it will as it did Obi Wan's apprentice.- Yoda

Just a little levity, do not worry I will give you everything you need for your homework. Just meet me half way.

I am not saying it is the answer to the original question but it is the answer to this part of it. Is it a little clearer to you what -70 means?

Re: Standard normal curve

yes i think so. Yesterday morning was Monday and i had to drive about 30 min. to class. I was so tired even after sleep. The brain does control and if fear is in there...well you know.
I am 100% on all my homework thus far, and this is my last four groupings of homework. All Algebra now.
I saw most of the Star Wars movies, some of them twice. Especially the first ones. I remember them. Yoda was the teacher.
So I guess you can teach me, someone needs to.

Re: Standard normal curve

I am much better looking than Yoda, also I am taller.

We are here.

Now you have said 70 - 70 = 0 and 0 - 70 = -70. so we have:

We can drop the 0.

Now to get x by itself we divide by 28 because 28 / 28 = 1.

1x and x are the same thing.

We are close! Do you know how to reduce a fraction?

In case you do not the answer is:

I am going to take a little break now to cook and eat. See you in a while.

5x            3x
___   _     __  = 1 Find the solution set. I thought it had a 12 denominator, but it did not.

6              7
I did get one right while you were gone. I don't know how though.

Re: Standard normal curve

denominator is 42,  so subtract 42 from both sides can't be done.
0.30 (6) + 0.05x = 0.15 (6 +x) I have about 30 more of these to go for now.

I also have  test on powerpoint tomorrow, wish me luck.

Is this what it should be?

Good luck on your test!
