Re: Equations with parenthesis?

It is german for wonderful. To me it is many things.

Good memories and sad.
Good experiences and bad.
Good judgement and mad!

Did you get some of that? Or better yet, all of it.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

I do once and a while.

And yes. I need to just practice so I can get all the steps down without making those little errors that throw the whole dang problem out of whack!

Put more problems. Algebraic manipulations are the fun part of math.

Okay... but just one more. I have a headache and I'd like to do some studying before it turns into a migraine.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

oh sorry it took so long..i had something to do.

okay, this one gave me a little trouble, what do you think?

12(2x -8) = 4(5 -2x) +  3(7 - 3x)

                    /\

24x + 8x + 9x = 96 + 20 + 21

       /\

41x = 137

     /\

41x/41  =  137/41

  /\

x = 137/41

x = (3 + 14/41)

How does that look?

No no no. Facepalms are inflicted as a result of frustration. Fainting is more universal. You can faint from heat, exhaustion, shock, dehydration, exitement, etc. etc.

I believe mine was from the pure shock of doing something right for once. wink

I do not agree. You do work the problems. You show effort.

Do, or do not. There is no try! - Yoda m

Here Yoda m is clearly mistaken. Probably due to the frustration of having to train that idiot.

When the great scorekeeper comes to put a check next to your name. He will mark not whether you won or lost but how you played the game.

That is what Yoda m meant.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Have not bothered to run down who said it. As far as I know it was Jack Palance in Tango and Cash.

Do you have a problem today you would like to go over?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Hello thar Sarah, how ya been?

bobbym wrote:

Not then, but I do now.

It is an inequality this time:

3y + 2 ≥ 5y +8

Unlike the other ones, I don't even remember how to start to solve these! Don't you start by trying to get rid of the number thats with the variable? In this case: 2 and 8? Or something like that?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Hi Sarah! How are you?

Okay, misheeru;

Just start working the problem as if it were 3y + 2 = 5y +8.

Yes, I was napping and dreaming.

Do it the same way until the last step...
