Thats correct to three decimal places.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Hmmm. This is starting to make more sense.

I'm a bit behind in my lessons. sad
My current one is on Area of Segments but I wanted to wait till I got better at the Area of Sectors first...

Okay how does this look. Its another one from my homework.:

What is the area of a sector with radius 10" and measure of arc equal to 45°?

45/360 * 3.14 * 10 * 10

1/8 * 3.14 * 10 * 10

A = 39.25 in ^2?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Woah really?!?!? yikes

I can't believe that I actually get something for a change!!!!

Hopefully my luck will hold out. Okay so when we try to find the area of a segment, we have to find the area of the sector first?

I do it with a formula.

Okay well, what formula do you use then? Maybe urs is easier to understand then the way my lesson describes it. smile

First tell me how your lesson describes it. Take your time and give me one of your examples. If you can.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Ok. They say to find the area of the sector first.

The model problem is:

Given a circle with a 6" radius, find the area of a segment that has a 60° arc.

60/360 * πr^2

1/6 * π(36)

1/6* 36 = 6π

Now, we must find the area of the triangle and subtract it from the area of the sector (6π).

The radius of the circle (6) is also the hypotenuse of our 30-60-90 triangle. The short side of our 30-60-90 triangle would, therefore, have a measure of 3 (since the short side is ½ the hypotenuse). We also know that the longer side of a 30-60-90 triangle has a measure equal to the shorter side times . Our height must, therefore, be √3.

Area = ½ (base)(height)

Area = ½ (6) 3√3

A= 9√3

Total Area of a Segment = 6π - 9√3

How do you know that the short side is half the hypotenuse?

Trig...uh not really... I don't think.... but I remember reading somewhere that the short leg is supposed to 1/2 of somnething. I can go back and look if you'd like? It would only take a few minutes.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Not necessary your answer is correct. Do it the way they want you to. Had you had a little trig you could use a much easier method than that. That will work though.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Well I said thank you in more of a formal manner, so if wanted to be  more formal back then Douita math would have been n best

And 'Iie' usually just means "no" so I think you supposed to say it twice.

And LOL it added the word "math" in there because it thought you cursed!

I must have said something incredibly wrong, my translator is an idiot. Sorry, and please forgive me. The MIF filter is changing what we are typing.

No it isn't it just thinks ur trying to say the "s" word. If you noticed I went back and spaced mine Differently so it wouldn't put "math" in there.

Aw man it worked when I hit "preview"!!! Darn it!

Lol I can't win with this thing!

Hi Jerry! Yeah that would have worked Bobbym. If you ever did end up going to japan the only thing you'd really need to know is  "sumimasen eigo o hanasemasuka"  which is "excuse me, do you speak english?"
