Two calculators of mine allow that, but another one said it was invalid.

Hi;

Wikipedia says that it is okay. Mathematica does not like it either.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Excel doesn't like it, neither does my HP32SII.

I started to read up on it just now but gave up because it's too advanced for me.

Yes, I used it once before and there was a discussion about it. Mathematics is an evolving field. Somethings are still not clearly defined.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

It just seems rather odd to me that 0^0 would be greater than 0^10.

Yes, it does. I just tried maple and it goes with 1.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

If the exponent 0 = nothing, then 0^0 means than you aren't raising 0 to the power of anything at all...you are doing nothing to it. To me it isn't logical - magical, maybe.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

It is based on that anything to the zeroth power is 1

...(-1)^0 = 1    _____     1^0 = 1     2^0 = 1    3^0 = 1...

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

To me that's still illogical. Someone's rule of convenience? I make up rules all the time to suit my purpose.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Hi;

This sequence here:

...(-1)^0 = 1    _____     1^0 = 1     2^0 = 1    3^0 = 1...

When you put 0^0 smack in the middle of that 0^0 = 1 looks more consistent.

Yes, that does look pretty. Consistency overriding logic...I doubt that I'll ever understand that one.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

You don't have to do that. Math Forum says:

Consensus has recently been built around setting the value of 0^0 = 1 .

Where did you get that?

I already changed it. Turns out there was another quick way.
