Re: Purpose of life????Yes In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #28 2009-12-08 17:51:29
Re: Purpose of life????I totally believe. Actually I've, more or less, had experience. I have all these memories that I've never even done. I get strange senses from history, well some parts of history. Not everything. Like I'll see something history based and just feel like I was there. I was at a da Vinci exhibition and I totally knew what he was talking about. Well, mostly, not the weird religious stuff. Re: Purpose of life????I like the idea of reincarnation, but you might have to sit out a few innings before you get back into the game. Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #31 2010-01-26 10:01:50
Re: Purpose of life????
Everyone who believes in reincarnation did something important in their past lives. "In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..." #32 2010-01-26 10:38:25
Re: Purpose of life????Recently I had a dream that I was a Russian ballerina in the late 19th century. Or maybe it was early 20th century. But then everyone in my dream turned into vampires and tried to eat me. I think John E. Franklin might have something there, that it might take a while before you get reincarnated after you die. But anyway, back to life, everyone has different views on it's purpose, but man may never truly know. Re: Purpose of life????Yes tigeree, if you sit out for some time, this might allow it to agree with other religions too in some twist. Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #34 2010-01-26 13:41:37
Re: Purpose of life????
I didn't, nor is it likely I will in this life either. How do you define important? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #35 2010-01-26 15:33:49
Re: Purpose of life????
Vaguely. "In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..." #36 2010-01-26 15:36:17
Re: Purpose of life????A little vague but still a good answer. It keeps me from responding. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #37 2010-01-27 19:25:12
Re: Purpose of life????What if it doesn't take you a hundred years, or whatever, to come back? I don't think I did anything important last time round, either. I had something important to say and now I can't remember what it was. People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy. ~ Anton Chekhov Cheer up, emo kid. #38 2010-01-28 13:05:27
Re: Purpose of life????The next person who veers from the topic will be zapped into the 16th dimension. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #39 2010-01-28 19:27:33
Re: Purpose of life????16th dimension? Yes please! I'm too old for this era/world. Cause I forgot what I was going to say? That's hardly veering. Not all Easterns, I know a load of people who reckon their gunna go to heaven. People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy. ~ Anton Chekhov Cheer up, emo kid. #40 2010-01-28 19:40:41
Re: Purpose of life????
Many people already have enough proof. Most people on earth do believe in some form of superior being. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #41 2010-01-28 20:03:46
Re: Purpose of life????I know but they can't prove that kind of belief, superior being's probably some alien. People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy. ~ Anton Chekhov Cheer up, emo kid. #42 2010-01-29 12:33:07
Re: Purpose of life????Maybe, but plenty of people have seen the devil and if he exists so does God. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #43 2010-01-29 18:40:06
Re: Purpose of life????Not necessarily, there may be many names for the same thing, but no one can prove that it actually exists. People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy. ~ Anton Chekhov Cheer up, emo kid. #44 2010-01-29 18:51:10
Re: Purpose of life????You don't have to prove everything beyond the shadow of doubt. This isn't math or a court of law. A feeling is enough, a preponderance of evidence. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #45 2010-01-29 19:30:56
Re: Purpose of life????But, it's just totally not evidence. Fine believe whatever you want, tis of no concern of mine. But believe me, Joan of Arc was just crazy. Re: Purpose of life????
I looked her up on Wikipedia, it doesn't say anything about crazy, so there. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #48 2010-01-30 20:51:40
Re: Purpose of life????Matt Groening proved she was crazy, wait, no it was my history textbook. Our government is so cheap. Not literally. People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy. ~ Anton Chekhov Cheer up, emo kid. #49 2010-01-31 14:27:47
Re: Purpose of life????Okay, who the heck is Matt Groening and why should I believe him? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Re: Purpose of life????Are you kidding? You live in America and you don't know? He's one of the most famous animators ever. He created the Simpsons, don't y'know? He didn't exactly prove that God doesn't exists, but more or less, that Joan of Arc was crazy. And you should believe him because he's one of the most trusted people in America, I think. Anyway, instead of reincarnation I'd like to spend eternity as a ghost, in a graveyard, I guess. Or haunting someone out of a house.
