Hi gAr;

I have not seen it till now. I remember her and parade magazine concerning the Monty Hall problem. 3 mathematicians wrote in that she was wrong and they should have known better. Of course she was right. Here I do not know?!

Oh, is it the same magazine and person?! I remember the monty hall problem's story.
I think the jumbled numbers are more likely, like in the expected number of throws for {3,3} vs {3,4}?

Hi,

I'm confused with this.
Here, we are rolling exactly 20 times, so it's a different problem?

One more problem which I'm confused is that whether rolling 20 dice simultaneously is same as rolling one die 20 times?

The second question I think I can answer. Rolling 20 dice is the same as rolling one dice 20 times.

As for whether she is right this time, I am not sure. The 3,3 and 3,4 problem deal with expected number of throws, not the probability.

Okay, thanks.

But let’s say you tossed a die out of my view and then said that the results were one of the above. Which series is more likely to be the one you threw? Because the roll has already occurred, the answer is (b). It’s far more likely that the roll produced a mixed bunch of numbers than a series of 1’s.

I do not understand the question! They must be equiprobable, isn't it?

New problem:

A unit square is drawn. A circle circumscribes it. Then another square circumscribes that outer circle, then a another square circumscribes that. This continues... What is the area of the 101 shape drawn?

A says)

B says) I do not agree, the answer is

C says) Hold on B and study A's answer it is correct.

B says) No it is not! The correct answer is

D says) You are always disagreeing with A. You should learn to be more cooperative.

B says) I am sorry.

E says) Why be sorry?  Start showing that you have a spine!  A is an idiot, stop placating him. I do not care how many letters he has after his name.  The answer is 2^198 units.

What is the area of the largest triangle that can fit inside of a square with sides s?
What type of triangle is it?

This is not a proof.  You have to account for the fact
that certain triangles have heights greater than s units.
Then show that, if true, their bases would have to be

Not necessarily. The height or altitude of a triangle is perpendicular to a base. There can be no perpendicular lines inside of a square of sides s that are longer than s, provided he starts with the base being one side of the square.

From the question, there are alternating squares and circles, isn't it? So 101st shape means 51st square?

Yikes, that is what I am getting too. Just a typo.

Okay so I am going with the 101 st shape is the 51th square with an area of 2^50 which is what you answered.  Very good solution, sorry for the wrong input but I can never return to one of these problems after a couple days go by without getting confused.
