Thanks!
I had replied something in "limits" forum, I think you missed it like I missed yours!

I would hope the forum would grow to the point where I could not possibly cover all the posts.

Re: Is this cool with you?

New Problem:

B plays a game by throwing 5 darts at a dartboard. There are 5 areas on the dartboard. Each one is equally likely to be hit and B always hits one of them. The areas have the point values of 1,2,4,8,16.

B notices that there are two games with a score of 10 points. (2,2,2,2,2) and (4,2,2,1,1). Based on this how many games are there?

A says) 5! games
C says) Yep!
D says) I did not get that.
E says) Looks like 119 games.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Ok, see you later.

Update: Even with a computer simulation, I'm getting a value close to 200.
Are we thinking of different problems here?!

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi gAr;

Remember order does not count. That is why there is only 2 games of 10.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi bobbym,

I still don't understand.

Do you mean (4,2,2,1,1) and (4,2,1,2,1) should be counted as one?
Oh, you told 5 darts, and I thought 5 throws!

Yes. Because we are only interested in scores. They are indistinguishable no matter what order they arrive in.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi bobbym,

There can be 126 possible games, and (1,1,2,2,4) and (2,2,2,2,2) are the only possible ways to score a 10.
But what's the question?
Did B throw the darts and got (2,2,2,2,2) and (4,2,2,1,1), and we need to estimate the number of games played?

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi gAr;

That is the question, how many possible games. I computed 119 so we are close. Either someone has duplicates or else left outs.

How did you arrive at 126?

Re: Is this cool with you?

126 is the number of possible games, ignoring the order. Otherwise it wiuld be 5^5.

I don't know how to approach this problem!
