Re: Religion with science

I am getting an answer of 1 but maybe I am misunderstanding something.

Re: Religion with science

By raising a binomial to the power of 1024, a bumpkin is supposed to get 1025 terms. How many are you getting?

Re: Religion with science

I thought they wanted only terms that were integers.

Re: Religion with science

That is true.

How many non-integer terms are there?

Re: Religion with science

Does it matter, the question says integer terms.

Re: Religion with science

Well, it does matter because when you ask M to Expand, it rolls up all the integer terms into one term

Re: Religion with science

I would think that as an example 1 + 2 + 3 is not 3 terms, you are supposed to combine that into 6.

Re: Religion with science

Have you never done binomial espansions by hand?

Re: Religion with science

Yes, but I think he should have mentioned that he wanted the individual terms.

How did you get the diophantine equation?

Re: Religion with science

If you know how to rephrase the question, tell me. I will change it.

gif.latex?%5Cimplies%20%285%5E%7B%5Cfrac%7B1%7D%7B2%7D%7D%20+%207%5E%7B%5Cfrac%7B1%7D%7B8%7D%7D%29%5E%7B1024%7D%20%3D%20%5Csum_%7Bi%3D0%7D%5E%7B1024%7D%20%7B1024%20%5Cchoose%20i%7D%20%5Cleft%28%20%7B5%5E%7B%5Cfrac%7B1%7D%7B2%7D%7D%7D%5E%7Bi%7D%20%5Cright%29%20%5Cleft%28%20%7B%7D7%5E%7B%5Cfrac%7B1%7D%7B8%7D%7D%5E%7B1024-i%7D%20%5Cright%29

By each term, we mean each instance of gif.latex?%7B1024%20%5Cchoose%20i%7D%20%5Cleft%28%205%5E%7B%5Cfrac%7B1%7D%7B2%7Di%7D%20%5Cright%29%20%5Cleft%28%20%7B7%5E%7B%5Cfrac%7B1%7D%7B8%7D%281024-i%29%7D%20%5Cright%29%7D

For such a term to be an integer,
and
should both be integers.

Hence,
should be
for some
and
should be
for some
.

So, you want all non-negative ordered solutions of 2x+8y=1024

You can use M of course or you can use the GCD.
