y=mx+b
y=8x+b
83=8(5)+b
83=40+b
83-40=b
43=b
y=8X+43

#1152 Re: Help Me ! » Point Slope Form of an Equation » 2011-05-26 08:49:32

so it would be (1,115) and (5, 83). right?

#1153 Re: Help Me ! » Point Slope Form of an Equation » 2011-05-26 08:32:01

so should it be   (115,1) , (83,2)?

please help because am trying to finish my algebra online lessons fast hmm

11-In January, Sam's electric bill was 115.00 dollars. In May, it was 83.00 dollars. Using the number of the month, for example January would be 1, February would be 2, etc, write two ordered pairs to represent the two electric bills.

11- (1,115) , (2,83)

12-Find the slope-intercept form of the equation that goes through these two points.

12- 83-115/2-1 =-32/1= -32
y=-32x+b
83=-32(2)+b
83=-64+b
147=b
y= -32x+147

13. Find the point-slope form of the equation that goes through these two points.

13- y-115=-32(x-1)
    y-115=-32x--32
    y=-32x- -147
    y=-32x+147

14.If this trend continues, what will Sam's bill be in July?

am really confused on the rest help please sad

15.At Generic High School, in the year 2001, there were 20 students per every computer. In 2008, there were 4.5 students per computer. Write two ordered pairs to represent the ratio of student to computer.

16. Find the slope-intercept form of the equation that goes through these two points.

17. Find the point-slope form of the equation that goes through these two points.

18.During which year was there 10 computers per student?

hey can anybody help me see if i did these correct thanx

1.    Slope = ½; (h, k) = (1, -2)

        y-k=m(x-h)

        y+2=1/2(x-1)

        y+2=1/2x-1/2
          -2         -2

       y=1/2X+3/2

2.    Slope equals 2 and the line goes through the point (-1, 3)

2.     y-k=m(x-h)

        y-3=2(x--1)

         y-3=2(x+1)
         y-3=2x+2

         y=2x+-1

3.    The line goes through the points (8,5) and (9, 6)

3.     6-5\9-8=1\1=1  slope=1

        y-k=m(x-h)
        y-5=1(x-8)
        y-5=1x-8
        y=1x+3

4.    The line goes through the points (-1, -7) and (-8, -2)
4.       -5/7=slope or M
           y-k=m(x-h)
           y+2=-5/7(x+8)
           y=-5/7x+6

5.    The line goes through the points (1/2, 3/2) and (-1/4, 5/4)

5-     m=1/3

       y-3/2=1/3(x-1/2)

       y-3/2=1/3x-1/6

y=1/3x+4/3

can anybody help me i did numbers 20 and 18 but i just cant figure the other ones out

16. The bigger the number the slope is in the equation, what do you notice happens to the graph?

17.What common characteristic do you notice about graphs with a positive slope? Is there a similar common characteristic for graphs with negative slopes?

18. What would the slope of the graph that goes through the two points (-3, 4) and (2, 4) be? What would this graph look like? Think back to lesson 10, What should the equation of this line be?
The slope for  (-3, 4) and (2, 4) would be
M=(4-4)/(2-3)=0/5
M=0/5
Y=mx+b
2=0/5*4+b
2=0+b
B=2
Y=0/5x+2
It looks like a horizontal line  so the equation should be y=2

19- What would the y-intercept of the equation y = 3/4x be?

20. When we have zero on the bottom of the slope, we call that no slope because of the rule that zero can never be in the denominator of a fraction. An example of this would be a line that goes through the points (2, -3) and (2, 4). If you plotted these points, what would this graph look like? What should this equation be?

#20-

(2, -3) and (2, 4).

m=4+3/2-2
m=7/0
slope is undefined
so the line would look like a vertical line

1/2|4x – 8| - 7 = 3

A-x = 7, x = -3
B-x = 7, x = 4
C-x = 0, x = -4
d-x = 13, x = 3
d-x = -7, x = -4

help please i have to show my work i tried soling it allot ended up with x = 1, x = -1 so it was incorrect
