This is like asking: If a dog has four legs, how many legs does it have?

Can you rephrase your question? neutral

4)
Late one night BOOKWORM was studying for his examinations when the lights went out. He lighted two candles of equal length, one thicker than the other. The thich candle is supposed to last six hours and the thin one two hours less. When BOOKWORM finally went to sleep the thick candle was twice as long as the thin one.
For how long did BOOKWORM study?

5)LAZY, SLOW and IDLE are working with Messrs Drousy Daughters at Dull-Louise. On every working day they lunch together at SLICK SLUMS where they also order beer based on the following premises:

c) Slow and Idle never have been together

3)This was carved on Diophantuss' tomb:
"God granted him to be a boy for the sixth part of his life, and adding a twelfth part to this, He clothed his cheeks with down; He lit him the light of wedlock after a seventh part, and five years after his marriage He granted him a son.Alas! late-born wretched child; after attaining the measure of half his father's full life, chill Fate took him. After consoling his grief by this science of numbers for four years he ended his life."
How old was Diophantus when he died?

Not too hard with the starting hint, but I think I'd find it much more difficult without one. Also, I think 5) should have a 'Nuqaui' in it.

You should try my brain teasers too. See the other post.

Letter Frequency analysis
Once you've got the feel for the overall sentence structure, look casrefully at thr frequency of the letters used.
Languages tend to have certain patterns. In english, the most common letter is E. aken in prder, the most commonly used letters are : ETAOINSHRDLU.
Count all the letters in the puzzle, look for the most common ones, and then compare them with the most common letter in the language. For example, if you discover that the most common letter in a particular puzzle is Q, then it is very likely that the Q is in place of either, E,T,A,O,I, OR N!

Vowels and spaces are going to most frequent. Consonants S,T,N and R are more common than others. The most common double letters are LL,EE, and SS.
You can also carry out frequency analysis on letter groups, especially foor small words and repeated letters. For example, compare two-letter words for common starting or ending letters. If there are three two-letter words that all start with the same letter but end with a different one, they may be words such as IT,IN, or IS.

Basic Tips

Check the sentence structure
you can tell a lot by examinig how the letters are arranged in the various words. For example, in English, there are only two words that are 1 letter long: 'A' and 'I'.

If the puzzle is a quote, and includes the name of a person quoted at the end, this may be another possible place to start. For example, try common first names. There are some people who get quoted often, such as Benjamin Franklin,so if you see a name that has two words similar of length, he may be worth trying as a guess.

no
try to make a chart of which shows that a=b, b=c.......It is easier if u have a paper and pencil.
