weirdscience.com is taken
scienceisweird.com is available
AwesomeScience.com is available for about $900
ScienceIsGreat vs ScienceHQ ?
Number goes up, number goes down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TboDmLD0ZU
495
ScienceIsFunForum.com is available, but I wouldn't want to get in the way of the ScienceIsFun.com owner
ScienceSite.com ... they want $5,000 for it.
Scienceiscool.com is already taken, but some variation may work:
* ScienceIsGreat.com
NeedScience.com is available
Still negotiating on sciencehq.com
Sane Science sanescience.com is available
Science Style sciencestyle.com is available
You can pan by single click (re-centers image)
ScienceIsFun.com is owned by Linda Froschauer, who is a leading light in the National Science Teachers Association. She intends to develop the site when she retires.
Gosh what a large list!
Excellent.
e^(sin(x)) is quite nice to scroll back and forth on
sciencelibrary.com is for sale I see, well done.
I need to add some new rules: no "_", and no numbers either.
New version 0.6, only minor changes, hopefully fixed the zoom bug that Bob found. (Use refresh!)
That is a cool story about 1564, Bob!
And your and neolevans suggestion to brainstorm names sounds really good.
Must have the word "science" in it. Go.
These answers are "to the best of my knowledge" and I am no expert:
Is it less expensive for a name that hasn't been thought up yet? => Yes indeed, like $10 to register a new name vs $1,000s that people want for names they already have.
Is it less expensive for a shorter name? => not for new names, but people want heaps more for shorter names.
Are some dot-whatevers (vs .com .edu .org etc.) less expensive? => .com is the most sought after, .net is the "I couldn't get the name in .com" website
Are they not more flexible now in assigning the dot-whatevers? Could something like fun.science be registered? things like .science would be VERY expensive and needs to be specially applied for with reasons etc.
I wish there were a pricing formula! People buy up names and then just sit on them waiting for offers. Sometimes there is a fixed price, sometimes an auction, other times it is negotiation.
Another (similar priced) possibility:
Learn Science learnscience.com
Nah, most expensive ...
(My luck in a nutshell)
But seriously, thanks
I want to start working on a Science website, the first step is to find a name. Most names are taken (such as ScienceIsFun), but I have these options so far (at differing prices):
Science HQ sciencehq.com
Science Partner sciencepartner.com
Unlock Science unlockcience.com
Which do you prefer?
Good point about making an absurd example ... a useful tool.
Just for fun I ran some random trials in a spreadsheet, 1000 at a time, and got: 0.69, 0.67, 0.66, 0.67, 0.69, 0.69, 0.66
I like f' because it is short and sweet. But dy/dx has the advantage of saying you are differentiating with respect to x.
Bob: thank you, those changes will make it better for sure!
Made a page on Derivative Rules
Lots of examples, possible errors (let me know!)
Also if you have any bright ideas on how to make it better.
Sounds like a glitch in the program ... will investigate, thanks.
I have made a Derivative Plotter
It plots the "derivative" by simply calculating successive points and working out the slope. I can't think of a simple phrase to say that ... "calculated slope"?
But a really cool feature is at the bottom where you get to plot a function in green to (hopefully) coincide with the "calculated slope".
Comments and Suggestions pretty please!
Thanks guys.
I have also opted for f'(x) rather than dy/dx ... what are your thoughts on that?
