Sketch the graph of y = |x^2 -5x + 4|. If the solutions of |x^2 -5x + 4| < 2 are 5/2 - 1/2sqroot 16 < x < 2 and a < x < b, use the graph to deduce the values of a and b.
How do I find the values of a and b?
A cubic equation f(x) = 0 has roots -3, -1 and 4. f(x) leaves a remainder of 12 when it is divided by x+2. Find the remainder when f(x) is divided by x^2 -2x-1.
Answer is -16x - 20.
Please assist. I think there's long division involved, but I'm just making assumptions.
