If a number x is twice as large as a number y and if the sum of their squares is 3125, then x and y are, respectively.

x = 2y
x²+y²= 3125

so (2y)² + y² = 3125

i.e: 4y² +y²  = 3125

         5y²   =  3125

          y²    =   3125 ÷ 5

                 =   625

          y     =   √625
                 =   25

  but  x = 2y

   so,    x = 2×25

              = 50

Answer:  x = 50
              y = 25  smile
