I came across a website run by a clown with an interest in education where you will find a series of adventure stories about learning multiplication
http://www.paradoxtheatre.co.uk
You can also go direct to each story using the following links
http://www.paradoxtheatre.co.uk/two_times_table.htm
http://www.paradoxtheatre.co.uk/five_times_table.htm
http://www.paradoxtheatre.co.uk/ten_times_table.htm
http://www.paradoxtheatre.co.uk/three_times_table.htm
http://www.paradoxtheatre.co.uk/four_times_table.htm
The point is I think that children become interested and see the practical application of tables, as well as understanding them as a way of multiplying addition, all told through adventure stories. The four times is particularly funny.
