OMG, thank you!  These UKMT things are so english.
I'm at GCSE sort of level.
I've done loads of the past papers but can't seem to get my head round the geometric problems, especially the ones that revolve around finding angles of shapes.
Then I feel stupid when I've seen the solutions

Thanks smile
btw, do you know any good websites for problem solving?  Doesn't have to be sophisticated, a few questions from past papers or a question a day type?
I know mathopolis and I've been surfing the net lately so I've literally done loads of them, another few websites would be appreciated
thanks ~ Tina up

Hi Bob ~ smile
So what I mean is a bit hard to express because we can't show stuff like square roots..(or can we?)
e.g. √17+12√2 is one I've been trying to simplify, and the seventeen plus twelve square rooted two is all inside one massive square root, not seventeen squared etc.
help?
thanks kiss

Hello!
I'm Tina and I'm like the same as you- GCSE to A level ish.
Yeah I really want to get into the olympiad too and do a kangaroo, so I posted this thing asking for help - it's called "JMC and IMC (or SMC) takers?!" and it's located in the 'Help' section of the forum.  It's like, the first or second one down.  You might wanna read the replies and
you might want to see it, I'm only doing IMC next year cause I'm young but I can manage.  I know what calculus is.

Yeah aside from that let's be friends together!!!!  Are you Japanese by any chance 'daijoubu' sounds like from anime XD

Tina here <3
I'm kindof new to this site, still finding my way around -_-"
has anyone taken the IMC (or even JMC or SMC) around these years?  I'm taking it soon and I'd like to know some problem solving tips, because the only thing I can do at the moment is equations.  I find problem solving pretty hard, English isn't my first language but I'm quite good at it so that shouldn't be a problem, I just can't get my head around simple things.
For example, do you think it is better to look at a problem then think about it and use logic to tackle it, or
is it it better to write down everything you read in an algebraic form first?  or anything else?
I hope to do a Kangaroo or a math olympiad, so I'd better get good at it.  My current scores would be enough to get me a gold possibly, and definitely secure me a silver and time is not really a problem for me.  So tips?  Or if you have no idea what I'm talking about, then problem solving tips just in general?  I'm scared O.o

Heyy ~ I'm Tina
I'm learning stuff at about GCSE - A level standard, and I'm currently working on trying to add/subtract numbers faster mentally and the binomial theorem as well as factorisation problems, freakishly hard, etc.  yeah, so if anyone has any suggestions or tips on simplifying square rooted numbers inside of square rooted numbers and factorising square roots, I'd be happy to know -- I'm in year 8 (I know, I know) and I'm going to take the IMC from the UKMT challenges next year so if anyone has any tips on that then great.
Good byeh ~

If you're looking for a friend then I am a good friend.  smile Read this, let's be friends together!  I don't mind how good or bad at math you are!!!! roflol
