Hey im not sure why i get the wrong answer =/ appreciate any advice.

I get x = 2, -5

but the book says x = 2, 1/2

i got everything else right in this section of book but cant figure this one out. The book does say y= not x= which makes me wonder if its a mistake.

thank you makes sense i was completely stuck

hey all i dont know what im missing here ):

i thought we first square everything

then subtract 2

then divide by 4

but i get wrong answer. what did i do wrong ><

the answer in book was in line with the typo

but thank you (: i will save this thread and review the problem assuming it was a2 and try work it out using your working (:

thanks thanks thanks

im sure its a typo because the 2 is after the a which does not conform with previous exercises.

i spent 2 hours on this :*( 2 hours 20 minutes

thanks all for help and very sorry for wasting everyones time.

in the book it doesnt have the exponent it just says a2 but maybe its typo? omg >< i will retry

from the last one? 1+a/a * a2/1-a2

multiply both by a?

Hey all

I can do most of these but cant get past this one for some reason.

=

but i get stuck here S: is this totally wrong?

with the other problems i was able to factor them then cancel out. But this one i keep getting to this point and get confused

yes

really the appreciate help on forum thanks all.

EDIT did some reading is this better

baah sorry guys i know i cant keep posting same thing clogs up thread.

but really hit a wall here.

i got the hang of easy ones but the book throws in different ones without explaining ><

i know i have to some how extract the 9 so that it is same term as the other one.

but cant work out how.

following what phrontister said in post #4

i would square the 2 to make it a 4 then times that by 9 and get 36 is that the first step?

im probably just clicking buttons here but

if above true its written

am i able to write this as

if thats right it makes sense or is it just gorilla math

i got the hang of it now i can get the answers (:

thanks for update (:

thank you

i sort of understand, enough to do the exercises now but not really comfortable with it.

i will redo the chapter and reread these posts (:

thanks again

i think i sort of understand

its because its an unknown right?

like b*b*b = b^3

b^2 * b

and we can write it as

because being unknown doesnt say how many times to do it >< my explanation is terrible but its close right?**bronxsystem**- Replies: 13

hey all im trying to learn how to simplify square roots but can only do numbered ones ><

i can do these ones i think

this one i dont understand ><

is that right S: but book says its wrong.

awesome (:

thanks

phew lol my brain was going to explode like trying to squeeze a triangle into a circle hole.

thanks for the link but any chance you can take a glance at this method

http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/52610.html

it seems simple and i got the hang of it pretty quickly

i will go through the link you sent now thank you very much

EDIT : both seem really similar ^^

im so lost. I have been staring at this page for over an hour.

im stuck on step 3

i need to find the square root of 23749.98

#step 1 first we write it in pairs starting left from decimal point and to the right of decimal point easy

#step 2 then find a perfect square of 2 and book says only 1 is smaller so i place the 1 above and below radical (not sure if right word)

STEP #3 next i thought we had to see how many times 2 would go into the first two digits of the new radicand 1 37 ?? so 2 goes into 13 = 6 times why is this book saying 5 times arghh i dont get it >< plz aware me

thank you all ^^
