Look at the number line:
... -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 ...
_____.___.___.___.___.___.___.___
To the left means smaller or less than.
Since -2 is to the left of -1, then -2<-1.
More generally
...-3<-2<-1<0<1<2<3...
You'll get it!

Sorry .. probably its a stupid question but important for me .
I always have confusion that in real line.
-1 < -2 is true or
-1 > -2
Which is true ?
