$3,800 / 4.5 = $844.44

So, Full Share = $844.44
Half Share = $422.22

4 $844.44 = $3,377.76

$3,377.76 + $422.22 = $3,799.98

So, 2 cents out (lost in rounding the cents off)

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out an easy way to see what a full & half share person would be charged.  My friends and I are getting a ski house and we would like to see what it would cost each person.

For example,

Total Rental Price: $3,800
4 Full Shares and 1 Half Share.

I tried dividing 3800/5 which gave me 760.  Then I divided the 760/2 which gave me 380.  The 380 would be what the base price of the half share would pay.  But now I have an extra 380 that is left over, so I took that 380 and divided it by 5.  That gave me 76 which I added on to the 4 full shares.  But I still have an extra 76 that I can't add to the half share, so I divide 76/2 that gives me 38.  I add that 38 to the 380 which gives me a total of 418 for the half share.  And with that extra 38 I divide it by 4 which gives me 9.50.  Finally that 9.50 I add to the full share for a total of 845.50 (760+76+9.50).

Full Share: 845.50   (845.50 x 4 = 3,382)
Half Share: 418.00

3,382 + 418 = 3,800

Now this gives me the right total price, but if I divide the 845.50/2 it gives me 422.75 which does not equal to 418.  So somewhere a long the line my calculation is wrong.

Does anybody know an easier way to calculate this or a formula that can calculate it the right way?

Thank you,
