]]>People got given only 15 minutes to do that question, which I thought would be a very hard task. I didn't time myself when I did that puzzle, but it probably took at least half an hour.
Anyway, most people believe that Einstein said that only 2% of people would get the answer right because they assume that the German owns the fish just because he is the only person who has not been allocated a pet. The fish is not at all mentioned in the clues, so it's equally reasonable to assume that someone not mentioned in the clues owns the fish.
]]>But, to do a proper statistical survey, you would have to choose your subjects at random.
But in this case we only know about people who are 1. interested in doing the puzzle, 2. don't give up and go away in the first few minutes, and 3. then go on to report their success or failure. This is probably a rather small percentage of the population, but hard to define!
